SEND Hub

Hello and welcome to our SEND Hub page!

What is our SEND hub?

At Moat Farm Infant School, we aim to offer excellence and choice to all our children, whatever their ability or needs. We have high expectations of all our children. We aim to achieve this through the removal of barriers to learning and participation. We want all of our children to feel that they are a valued part of our school community. We respect the fact that children:

⦁ have different educational and behavioural needs and aspirations
⦁ require different strategies for learning
⦁ acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates
⦁ need a range of different teaching approaches and experiences

Therefore, we adapt the provision as necessary to ensure that children’s individual needs are met. With this in mind, at Moat Farm Infant School we have a SEND Hub which is called ‘Rainbow Class’. The hub accommodates children who are unable to access the classroom environment because of their high needs and are supported through an Educational, Health and Care Plan or Early Years Intervention Grant Funding. It is organised differently to the rest of the school. Our children in the hub mostly have speech, language and communication needs including ASC, therefore individual learning pathways are central to the practice and provision within the hub. We value that each child will have their own strengths and barriers to learning.
Children who occupy a place in the hub will start their journey completing all their learning within the hub. However, as they progress, there will be opportunities to complete elements of their learning alongside their peers in the mainstream provision where appropriate. We aim to create an environment that supports children to push the boundaries and is aspirational for what they can all achieve.
Our vision is to create a stimulating, inclusive and nurturing environment where all children can learn and develop their skills socially and academically. We endeavour to provide the highest quality teaching and learning that enables all children to thrive and progress within their personalised curriculum by using the ‘Orchard Framework of Intent’. We have a holistic approach to developing the children as individuals through working on life skills, communication, independence and relationships alongside their curriculum learning in order to prepare them for adulthood. All achievements are celebrated. A broad, balanced, relevant and personalised curriculum supports pupils’ health, wellbeing and readiness for their next stage of learning and enabling them to access their community.

In Rainbow Class, each child has a dedicated team of key workers who know them well and provide the necessary support. Depending on the child’s needs or the activity, staff may work with them individually or in small groups. The Rainbow Class offers a calm, structured environment with individual workstations for focused teaching, as well as spaces for group activities, sensory experiences, social interactions, creative projects, and play-based learning.

Comments from parents

“To all staff in rainbow class, We wanted to say a massive thank you for all your help and support with … … really loves rainbow class and he has come on so much since being in there. It really has been the best thing for him. You have all helped him to start reaching his full potential and achieve everything that we always knew he could in life and that these are recognised by yourselves. You have all taken a lot of stresses away from us as parents with a child with SEN needs as we know he is being cared for in the right and best environment for him. Thank you all again, you are all fantastic.”

“I think the Rainbow team are creative in how they assist … in accessing the curriculum, and they are adapting their approach to assessing … as his abilities broaden over time. I am happy with how this has evolved throughout … time at Moat Farm, and I feel that it is relevant to …. and his needs and capabilities. We are thrilled with the work done to allow … to ‘speak’ through his communication book. This has been a big success in allowing new areas of the curriculum to be opened to …”

“Socialised support with reception level subjects as appropriate/able – very relevant as it supports … on his education journey. We are happy he is not being held back due to SEN/sensory needs and being encouraged with self-care. Like visits to mainstream reception class to not isolate SEN children.”

“I am happy with the help my children are receiving. I see a change in them, like … vocabulary has improved and sentencing, he is more alert and likes his class members and teachers. With … he has started to say words and play more and will have more eye contact. All this is new to me as a parent so it’s a learning curve for me.”
